    Upgrading from 2003 to 2010

We're about to upgrade from 2003 to 2010. I can find help online for making the move, but what I'm finding doesn't deal much with the VBA side, other than to say that some 2003 macros may not work. I'm sure some of my macros are going to fail, but I don't have a chance to test them before we upgrade, so all I've done so far is refigure any routines that look at every cell in a column to instead look from top to LastRow (so Excel's not looking at a million cells). I'm concerned about moving my PERSONAL.xls and my Excel11.xlb to 2010 as well as what I'm going to do about my custom toolbars, plus the custom toolbars I set up for some of my users. I'd appreciate some help or direction in anticipating and setting up for these problems.

    Thanks,
    John

Good luck with that John. We upgraded to 2007 from 2003 a few months back and I am still getting complaints from co-workers regarding files that no longer "work". Also, I had to sift through all of code from the workbooks that I created to make sure that everything was good, which it wasn't so I fixed things line by line. I'm not looking forward to our next upgrade but thankfully that won't happen for quite a few years!

Most code works fine - there are some issues e.g. saving files, no FileSearch butgenerally it's not a problem. It's well worth the effort in my opinion
    Hope that helps.

    Hi John,

Jump in and embrace the love... I am using Excel 2010 and compared to 2003 its a God send. The speed, size of the worksheets, etc. are a big plus compared with '03. Some macros will need some modifications, and you will probably want to test it before your coworkers do. Also if you like custom templates, then you really will love creating custom ribbons. There is so much you can do with the new excel (e.g. powerpivot, fuzzy lookup, etc.) and new things keep rolling out of the MS factory.

    Good luck.

Re: Upgrading from 2003 to 2010

I appreciate all the encouragement, but I'm really looking for some practical help here.

For instance, if I save my Personal.xls and my Excel11.xlb files, where do I put them after the upgrade, and will Excel 2010 open and use them?

Where will Excel 2010 put my custom toolbar, which is contained in the .xlb file?

How can I help my users to carry their Personal.xls and Excel11.xlb files into the new application?

Any help with these issues is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    John

    Thanks OEG0;
I downloaded Andy's add-in, and am about to start reading Ron's page, so thank you very much for pointing me to these resources.

My pleasure. The XML stuff can look intimidating at first (it did to me) but it's actually not that tricky once you get your head round the concepts.
    Good luck.
