need help changing format of every entry in a column

Hello. I have a workbook with about 20,000 lines in it. In column I have unique 13 digit codes in this format: 1234567890123. I want the codes to be in this format: 1234-56-789-0123. I know I can make them LOOK like that by using custom format of ####-##-###-#### for column A, but that does not make them come up in a search when I use the dashes in the search. I want to be able to search for the number using the dashes SO I want a way to automatically make the number in the formula bar and the cell appear with the dashes. Can anyone help me with this?
