    Excel 2007 & 2003 VBA Compatibility

    Hi,

I am using Excel 2007 and want to pass on some simple macros to someone who only has access to Excel 2003.

Given that the macro-enabled workbook format (xlsm) wasn't available in Excel 2003, can someone please tell me how to share the macros with a user of this version of the software? Is it best simply to send the code in a Word doc so that they can paste it into their VBE or can 2003 do anything with the xlsm file (e.g. with the addition of a compatibility package)?

    Thanks

There is a compatibility pack available as a free download from MS or you could just save the workbook as a 97-2003 format .xls file, as long as you haven't used any 2007 only features.

If they have the compatability pack, then they'll be able to read the xlsm file. Alternatively, you could save the file as an xls yourself and send it to them?

If the workbook itself isn't of interest - just the VBA - then you could export the code modules (VBE>Project Explorer>Right click on the module and export file) and just send those to the user. The user can then import the modules into their project. This would be cleaner than putting it into Word.
    Hope that helps,

    Colin
