Thumbs up Extract from the list and total month wise.

    hey

I have company detail of sales in different date wise for several companies.
so when I choose a company in a cell, for that particular company's
    month wise total should display.

It seems to be easy but I find hard to catch the point. It can be in formula or vba.

    Can any one help me?

    Charles

    See attached.

I converted your dates to serial dates rather than text strings to make things easier.

You guys are way to fast for me, but I'll post anyway. I used a helper column to extract the month.

Re: Extract from the list and total month wise.

    Hi Charles,

Find the attached as an example of how I might do your problem. It involves creating a unique list of companies for a validation dropdown list. It also uses Advanced Filters and event macros.

I hope this example will open your mind to using more features of Excel than just simple formulas.

I retract my statement of "Simple Formulas" after looking at the two answers above mine. Both of them look pretty complicated to me. I also see that neither of them gave you a total. Excel has so many features with Validation Lists and Advanced Filters, why not learn them to do the hard problems in simple ways?
