    Query in Spread Sheet Validation

    Dear All,

I have come across a statement in the SOP that, 'The cells which contains the formula should be hidden'. My query is what is the use of hiding the formula even the entire sheet is protected..?

Also it states that 'All spread sheet templates should be validated once in a year'. Is it mandatory..? Is there any regulatory requirement regarding the validation period of the spread sheet..?

    Thanks in advance..!

    Best Regards

I have no idea what you mean by "SOP", but one reason for hiding formulas in general might be if they are intermediate helper formulae which contained information that is either not necessary to see or perhaps not allowed to be seen.

I think you are talking about Standard operating procedure which your trainer would have provided.

They want you to hide the formulas always so that no one except you should know what is there.

    &

Always validate the template once in a year because, every year the report and template would change. So validate if the template, all formuals are amended for the new year.

If I am not wrong, every year a new template is created for the purpose of reporting.
So you dont have to worry ask your trainer

    Dear Mr.Ricahrd,
As said by Mr.Aravind, the SOP states for Standard Operating Procedure..and am sorry for posting without proper abbreviation..

    Dear Mr.Aravind,
Yep, I agree with you..Can I know any specific regulatory requirement behind the validation of the spread sheet..??

Though this is not the forum to discuss, i would like to give you few points.

    1. the business is not the same every year. Atleast once in a year you need to check if any amendments, changes on the process, way of reporting etc are all changed on the template accordingly.

    eg:
you have been reporting sales for 100 products this year. but next year few products might get deleted, few would be added. you need to make these changes on the report/template as well else you would be reporting incorrect numbers.

in short validating the spread sheet is nothing but creating a new template with all the updates once in year.
