Selecting a specific shape

Are shapes counted from top left to bottom right on a page based upon the location of their top left pixel? Say I have 10 shapes on a page & I want to work with shape number 6. Is shape number 6 the sixth shape on the page from top left based upon each shape's top left pixel location?

I don't believe so. I think it rather has to do with the order in which they were created.

If you are adding the shapes then you can name them as you add them e.g.
