Re: 11MB Workbook Performance Drops after a few months

    Dear Experts,

Leith Ross, Mudraker, VoG, and many others have helped me a great deal when I started out with VBA beginning 2008. I have custom created a production planning and sceduling program for a company. The workbook contains about 14 Sheets, is about 11MB and works very well. However, I suspect that some memory build-up is taking place somewhere, since the performance seems to slow down after a few months. There are no pivot tables, "solvers" or loops. Data just passes through without any serious build up of same. Could it be that in an obscure place somewhere some activities of the workbook are stored that could ultimately affect the performance? Just wondering

    Hello Winon,

I remember helping you, but I don't remember the project. Searching the database here also turned up nothing and I have no record of the project in my files. To help you, I will need to see the workbook. 11 megabytes is quite large and will probably exceed the upload maximum size for the forum even when zipped. You can email me a copy, if you like. Let me know.

P.S. - Please change your thread title to something that reflects your question.
    Sincerely,
    Leith Ross

Re: 11MB Workbook Performance Drops after a few months

    Hi Leith,

Thank you for the quick reply, and a rap over the knuckles. Unfortunatelaty my ISP allows only a max of 6MB which I cannot accomplish even with a Zip feature. The workbook is o.k. (I Think) because it worked like a dream for a month or three, and then on one sheet, the permance came to almost a halt.
Debug, shows no problem. There are no reports of incorrect stacked procedures, nothing. After I recreated or replaced that sheet with another one, it was, and is still going like a rocket again! Thats when I remembered seeing something back in 2008, about some build of of certain actions using command buttons to the point where they no longer responded. I thouhgt I could be faced with the same problem.

Re: 11MB Workbook Performance Drops after a few months

    Thanks shg,

I shall give it a try and let you and Leith know. Luckily I have saved the "Old' troublesome Workbook for analysing the problem. You just might have hit the right spot. As a matter of interest. Could you gurus also fall prey to this kind of problem, where you would also rely on "Code Cleaner", or are you guys too great for that, I suppose? Once again, Thank You!!!

Re: 11MB Workbook Performance Drops after a few months

I use it all the time.

I don't know enough about VBA internals to understand how junked p-code accumulates, but it does, especially during development when run-time errors are legion.
