    2007 to 2003

I have a .xlsm file using macros and pivot tables with an external datasource (.udl). I need to make it useable in office 2003, so what I did was to save it as .xls and since it uses, udl, I should have no problems in changing datasources. However, when I open the files, all the macros (drop downs of the pivot tables) are all disabled. When I double click these macros, I get the error saying that the pivot tables are created in a later version and that I should click ok and then open the file using the version in which it has been created. Is there anyway for me to enable the macros? I tried toggling the macro security but to no avail. I hope there's another way beside redoing the report in 2003. Thanks!

It's generally best to develop in the earliest version that will be used.

I can't understand why the macros don't work, PivotTables could be different. We can only guess without seeing the code and workbook
    Hope that helps.

    Re: 2007 to 2003

If you create a pivot table in a file that is not open in compatibility mode, the pivot table will be created in the new pivot format, and this will not work if you then save the file as an .xls. You need to save the file as an xls, close and reopen it to enable compatibility mode and then create the pivot table. There is no way of converting an existing table, so you have to rebuild it.

Some things seem to convert backwards OK, while others lose functions. It's hit or miss for me when I open a later version with my XL2003.
