    Moving Data to Specified Location

This is what I have. A spreadsheet that will take the times from a track meet(4 heats, 8 contestants per heat). So far I have each heat as i want them(put in times and they get ranked from 1st to 8th in each heat). I need to know how to take all 32(or whatever number of contestants there are) and put them in the RANKED RESULTS from lowest time to highest time. Then it should, using the RANK function rank them from 1-32. I need to know how to get there times, names, and school into the RANKED RESULTS. Once this is done I want to take the fastest 8 and move just their names and school into the FINALS. Then the contestants will run another race and their times will be put into the appropriate spot and these will be ranked(which I think I have done).

Bottom Line: Get the contestant info from the first 4 heats into the ranked results and then taking the top 8 and putting them into the finals.

Attached is my progress thus far:

    Thanks in advance.

If any further information is needed, please ask. Hopefully I explained myself thoroughly.

Re: Moving Data to Specified Location

If I go ahead and move the finals to another sheet can i still use the "index" just by adding "sheet one"(or the actual name of the sheet) say "200M Dash"???

Also is there any way to AUTOMATICALLY put the finals contestants in a different order say: 1st fastest to lane 4, second fastest to lane 5, third to lane 3, fourth to lane 6, fifth to lane 2, sixth to lane 7, seventh to lane 1, and eighth to lane 8???

I am thinking there should be a way to do this, but I don't have enough experience in excel?

For the Finals simply put in the lane numbers to the left and change the existing numbers to 1-8.

Give the different sheet a try and if it doesn't work then resubmit.

    MarvinP,

Scrapped the idea of a different sheet.

I have rearranged the sheet to a more appealing layout. I don't really understand what you had told me to do. Sorry.

I have actually taken the Lane Drop Down box and the color formatting out of the equation. I still need help with getting the data to the finals in the lanes I want them in. Sorry again

    Hi Rhett19

See the new attached that has the lane in a column separate from the place. See if that works for you. ALSO - if two people have the same times they would have the same RANK number and that would be bad.

    See the attached.
