Macro Enabled file too larg

I'm just now learning to program with VBA so I've been copying a file one of my co-workers created line-by-line to make sure I understand what each command does. I've created my own file that will be identical to his when I'm finished copying. The problem is that my file is WAY bigger than it should be. Mine is 169,958 KB compared to his which is 143 KB, and I'm only about 1/4 of the way through copying it. Why is this happening? Do I need to compress it somehow? Help please!
