    Convert time to decimal

I am trying to set up an invoicing system. I charge my clients by hours:minutes:seconds and need to convert the time to decimal. I have tried the convert to time function but this appears to apply to a time of day, not a length of time.

Can anyone suggest a formula to convert the length of time worked to a decimal figure which I can then multiply by the rate?

    Many thanks
    Mary Anne

    Re: Convert time to decimal

Assuming you want decimal hours multiply time value by 24 and format as Number / Decimal.

    In XL 1 = 24 hours.

Thanks for the pointers. Have solved the problem by formatting the cell as general then converting to minutes and seconds and multiplying by 24.

    I'd say:

    PHP Code:
    =A1*1440*'rate per second'

I'd say this is wrong, no?
    As 24hrs * 60min * 60secs = 86,400seconds

    1,440 is on minutes ( = 24hrs * 60min)
