Data Validation

Hi

Can anyone help? Is it possible to create using data validation a spreadsheet that does the following

3 data lists - continent, country, county/state

Is it possible to click on county/state and for it to fill in country and continent? I have been trying for ages and I only seem to be able to click on continent and then select which country and county/state I want.

Please can anyone help and put me out of my misery?!!!

One way to do this, is to greate a list, then use data validation for country/state and then using INDEX & MATCH,you will have your results.

I have attached a file with some of the data in it. It shows all continents then African States and then Algeria's countries. I am wanting to use data validation so that I can go to any 3rd column and for it to know that it is an Algerian country in Africa. Not sure whether this is possible?

Hi purplebutterfly,

I have re-attached your file after doing something in it. Basically I have given approaches in it - one is basic data validation which most of the users generally asks and below one is reverse mapping - pick up which ever you need.
Also just wanted to let you know that your data should be proper arranged and structured if you want a dynamic solution and then off-course formula and method may change further.
