macros won't run after protecting worksheet

I have a worksheet of data. In two columns I want to lock user input as there are formulas in those columns. I also have about 6 different macros assigned to control buttons on the same sheet. When I protect the sheet and lock the appropriate cells, the macros stop working. Is there another way to prohibit user access to those two columns. Any help would be appreciated.
