    Problem with Linking

    Good Day All,

Here is the trouble I am having. I am designing a small access database that will run off of a linked excel spreadsheet. The problem is that the data that come into the spreadsheet is actually a excel csv file that the company throws into a specified share directory. This file needs to be imported into the excel sheet that does a number of calculations then that data in return goes to the database. I cannot get anything to work to get the csv file to be a automatic live link to the spreadsheet, nor reading any book can I find a reference to even how to create a vb comand to do so.

    Re: Problem with Linking

You can only live link to Excel formatted workbooks. A .csv file is a raw text file so no "live" linking is possible, that I know of. You can however set the source as a .csv file when you do a Data > Import External Data > Import Data > Text Files.

During the Import process you will be given the chance to set Properties for the import query. You can save the query and have it refresh the import every so often. That should give you a start.
