problem with if statements and error handling

I currently have an if... then structure as shown below. however, i have a problem where if the error message is activated (i.e. if an input error is made), then it also does the last code module.

If      ERROR        then
                      error message
           else
                   run the proper program (which has 1 if statement)
           end if
           end if
        
       last code module

I want to fix this statement so that if the error message happens then the last code module isn't run. but, when i try to move one of the end if statements to after the last code module, i get an error. what is the correct way to fix this?
