Using Scroll Wheel on VB Listbox on Sheet causing crash

Hi All

I am using Excel 2000 on XP with an MS Basic Optical Mouse.

The problem - I have a series of listboxes on my sheet from the VB toolbar (not the forms toolbar). I have just realised that when I select an item from any of the listboxes and then inadvertently move the scroll wheel on my mouse Excel closes, without asking about saving etc.

By way of trouble shooting I put breakpoints at the beginning of all of my pieces of code and none of these are triggered when I use the scroll wheel. I then created a new workbook with a vb listbox but no code behind it and the same thing happens.

Has anyone else experienced this, can other people reproduce this? I have tested using listboxes from the forms menubar and it does not have the same problem but it would be great if I didn't have to go and rewrite the code to use form listboxes.

Any help would be much appreciated.

VBA in Office 2000 doesn't support the use of the mouse scroll wheel. However, Microsoft did provide a patch for this problem. Click the link to download the files and how to install them.

Many thanks for your welcome and reply.

I thought that VB not recognising a mouse wheel would mean you could not scroll through the list box using the mouse wheel, the problem I have is that it crashes excel. Do you think this is the reason for the crashing? (the system does not bring up the send/don't send message when programs usually crash by the way).

Unfortunately I cannot install the suggested fix as I am at work and our desktops are somewhat locked down as to installing. I will give it a try from home.
