Problem with VLOOKUP to remote file

    Hi there,
This is the 1st time I used this Forum....

I've a macro using VLOOKUP to search another Excel file (4 sheets each with 4000 rows and about 20 columns, around 7000KB) which locates in an Intranet site.

The marco is assigned to a button so the users only need to click the button to activate the VLOOKUP.

The problem I have is the data never return in the 1st click, it usually comes back in the 2nd or 3rd attempt but we do need to have the data back in the 1st click.

I've tried to reduce the size of the remote file (down to 2000KB) but it doesn't help, I used "Index & Match" but also the same......

Could anyone give me some hints.....

    Thanks.

Re: Problem with VLOOKUP to remote file

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!

    Thanks Teylyn for the hints.....

Ok, I've attached 2 dummy files, the VLOOKUP_test.xls which has the VLOOKUP macro and the Data_wk.xls containing dummy data.

What we want is when user put in a unique number in the highlighted cell and hit "Get Data", the VLOOKUP marco will search the data_wk.xls for a match and return the figures. Please note that the Data_wk.xls is on an intranet site and thus I'm not sure if the currently method is the most effective one as it never works on the 1st click......

    Thanks.
