    Starting Word from Excel

I want to start Word and send information (charts and text) to it.

    When I try:

Please Login or Register to view this content.
    I get the error:

License information for this component not found. You do not have as appropriate license to use this functionality in the design environment.

Is it something I have failed to do or does MS not allow this with the Office 2007 Home & Student edition?

Has anyone tried to use another MS Office product from within Excel?

I don't do any Word automation, but maybe like this:

    Try

As stated previously, you will need to make a reference to the Microsoft Word 12.0 Object Library - Under tools-references in the VBA editor.

    Hi SgtSunshine

I see you're using Office 2007 and so do I. I don't know about this
or does MS not allow this with the Office 2007 Home & Student edition
but this is code I use to open Word from Excel

Thanks for the reply. I have now modified my code to

    I get the error:

    Compile error:
    User-defined type not defined.

    on the line

    Dim MyWord As Word.Application

It is as if Excel doesn't know anything about Word!

    What do you think?

    Hi SgtSunshine

You need to set a reference to Microsoft Word 12.0 Object Library (or whatever version you have on your machine). Go to VBA, Tools, References (see picture attached).

Also, change this line of code from

    to this

The code then worked for me.

Re: Communicating to Word from Excel

OK. Thanks for that jaslake. That gets rid of the Compile Error. Now I am back to the error:

License information for this component not found. You do not have an appropriate license to use this functionality in the design environment.

That's why I thought it might have something to do with the version (Office 2007 Home & Student edition) I have.

    What a brilliant forum!

    Hi SgtSunshine

Appears you may need to upgrade. Sorry about that.

    Re: Starting Word from Excel

    Thanks for your help John.

I was afraid of this being the result. It is a bit annoying though. I wonder if I take my Excel workbook and run it on a full version and then save it, if it will then work for people who have my version. That is, if the restriction is built into the file or the version of Excel. If it is the latter, even if I upgrade and it works, it won't run correctly if I send the file to someone who has the Home & Student edition.

    It's a conundrum!

Have you used Word on your machine yet? Does it work OK?
There is, to the best of my knowledge, no restriction on automation if you have a full version of Office Home and Student (i.e. not a trial)
