    Randomizing Columns

Every year my company hosts a golf outing which consists of random teams. I have had a spreadsheet set up ranking people from best to worst. I then take each quarter, and assign them as A, B, C or D player.

I then randomly put an A B C and D player together to form a team. Historically, I've just run some kind of random number generator in asp.net, then copy/pasting the results next to the player, then sorting.

What I'd like to do is have some kind of button and automatically post teams on another sheet.

How would I get started with this?

How well do you know VBA? What you're asking is of moderate difficulty. If you don't know it well, we are here to help.

The first thing to do is set up your spreadsheets. It would be a good idea to include some sample data, and how you expect it to look on your sheet that has the teams posted. Once you have this set up with some sample data, post it here and we can either give you advice for how to code it, or if you'd like we can code it for you.
Is your code running too slowly?
Does your workbook or database have a bunch of duplicate pieces of data?

It will save both time and effort in the long run!

Another way is to assign them serially from best to worst, to make team more nearly of equal skill.

           -A-- -B--
       1 rank team
       2 1 A
       3 2 B
       4 3 C
       5 4 D
       6 5 A
       7 6 B
       8 7 C
       9 8 D
      10
      11 9 D
      12 10 C
      13 11 B
      14 12 A
      15 13 D
      16 14 C
      17 15 B
      18 16 A
Entia non sunt multiplicanda sine necessitate
