    Ping a URL

I'm not 100% sure where this would belong, this seemed like the best place. Mods, please place it in the correct section if this is the wrong section... Thanks!

This would apply to either Excel 2003 or 2007.

I have a whole load of URLs in an .xls file that have been generated based on concatenations and have been hyperlinked. Using this =hyperlink(concetenate(stuff to gen. URL))

Excel is smart enough that if I click on one of the links, and it should return a 404, that it'll generate a error message in Excel (which I was pleasantly surprised with), but if the page works, it'll open in your default browser...

Is there a way to get Excel to ping each of the URLs? I'm guessing it would have to be a Macro...

Could I have the "script" store either the the title of the page or the fact that it was a 404 and then later only re-check the URLs that have a 404 marked on them?

    Thanks in advance!

    Dario

    Re: Ping a URL

Does not comply with rule #8

    8. Cross-posting is when you post the same question in other forums on the web. You'll find people are disinclined to respond to cross-posts because they may be wasting their time solving a problem that has been solved elsewhere. We prefer that you not cross-post at all, but if you do (and it's unlikely to go unnoticed), you MUST provide a link (copy the url from the address bar in your browser)to the cross-post. Expect cross-posts without a link to be closed a message will be posted by the moderator explaining why. We are here to help so help us help you!

    Re: Ping a URL

*sigh* I originally posted it on UtterAccess but after not receiving a reply after 4 days, I asked some friends for suggestions. They suggested here and mrexcel.com, so to save time, and maximize the possibility of getting an answer and getting different solutions, I posted it at both locations nigh-simulatneously.

I fail to see why this would be a bad thing, especially considering that I only "cross-posted" it at one other location. At least someone there was helpful.

But fine, just ignore it, no harm no foul.
