    txt to excel to txt

    Hi

I have a txt file which I download into excel (reformatted using the default settings in excel - deliminated). I change one column of data & the data is represented in the same format.

How do I save the excel to a txt file applying the same formats??

Re: txt to excel to txt - help!

Text files are just that -- they don't store formats.

Once this is downloaded into excel it looks like the excelexample.

Re: txt to excel to txt

When you open the text file, you have to be deliberate in specifying that the long numeric strings are imported as text, otherwise you lose the significant digits beyond 15, e.g., 2009123120091231 becomes 2009123120091230 (as your example shows).

The source file is fixed-width, space delimited. When you save it from Excel as text, you get tab-delimited output. You can re-open the output in Excel in Excel to get the same result, again with due care to import long numeric strings as text.

To my knowledge, you'd have to write code to output in space-delimited fashion.
