    insert a command button

    Hi guys,

    Here's my problem:
I want to insert a command button and assign a macro, I have the developers toolbar available with the controls section and on all other spreadsheets i can then select insert and choose the required button, however on the particular workbook i want to use the insert button is greyed out and not available.
i already use macros in this workbook and they work fine from keyboard shortcuts but i would like to make one of them run from a command button
Is there a simple setting somewhere which i may have turned off inadvertently previously or could the problem have anything to do with the macros themselves?

    Thanks
    Lee

In Properties look at Enabled. Is it TRUE?

Thanks for the quick reply rwgrietveld
i assume you mean the properties button on the same controls tab.
this brings up a properties dialogue box with alphabetic & catagorised tabs, both these tabs are empty and contain no information at all.

no, it's unprotected, it was stored over a network but i've taken a copy and saved it to my machine and i still can't select insert.

    Re: insert a command button

Do you get this problem with other workbooks/

If not is the workbook itself protected?

    can you attach the workbook?
    Hope that helps.

    Re: insert a command button

    ermmm, i'm slightly embarrased now.

the worksheet wasn't protected and neither was the whole workbook, but this is a workbook i've been using for a couple of years and several months ago i tried, unsuccesfully to share it with other network users so it could be edited by several people at once. Anyway i just checked to see if there were any settings in there that could be wrong and while i didn't find anything and just cancelled the dialogue box, the insert button then became available again.

in short....i dunno how ....but its fixed

thanks for all the replies though fellas

    Re: insert a command button

You cannot edit VBA in a shared workbook, that includes adding controls.
