VBA Security

Hi All

We have developed an Excel workbook with hundreds of lines of VBA code written for a specific application, and we would like to protect it.

Could someone give me an idea of what security options we have over and above the below (if any)?

We have protected all sheets and the workbook itself with passwords. The VBA itself is protected with a passoword.

My understanding is that VBA can be hacked into quite easily.....is there any way of adding another layer of security/protection without having to move to another platform altogether?

Thanks in advance

Sunil

Re: VBA Security

Hello sunilmulay,

Excel and VBA passwords were not created to provide security but to prevent accidental or unauthorized changes. Security is relative term. The more advanced the user and determined to hack your code, the less secure the data will be. However, if the user is average then the same security measures may prove more than adequate. Even compiling the program is no guarantee against hacking as decompiler program are readily available.
Sincerely,
Leith Ross

Remember To Do the Following....

1. Use code tags. Place
before the first line of code and
after the last line of code.

Re: VBA Security

Hi Leath

Thanks for your reply. The workbook will be available for use to the public, released via the internet.

My principle so far has been: if they're clever enough to hack in, they're probably clever enough to write the program themselves!

However, I'm interested to find out if there is some way to up the security a notch. What's this "compiling" stuff you refer to? Is this some sort of encryption?

I will probably resort to sticking with the VBA password "protection", but just wanted to explore the options.

Thanks
Sunil

You can purchase software to achieve this.
Hope that helps.

Hi Roy

Since I have no experience in this area, are you able to point me in the right direction? eg. can you recommend or suggest any particular product or brand to look at?

Thanks
