    Alternate formula for CHAR formua in excle

    I have Dates like this in col A and I have entered the formula
    =CHAR(COUNTIF($A$1:$A1,A1)+48 in Column B it gives the below result.
    
    Date	---------------	Result
    23-Dec-10	---------------	1
    23-Dec-10	---------------	2
    23-Dec-10	---------------	3
    23-Dec-10---------------	4
    23-Dec-10	---------------	5
    23-Dec-10	---------------	6
    23-Dec-10	---------------	7
    23-Dec-10	---------------	8
    23-Dec-10	---------------	9
    23-Dec-10	---------------	:
    23-Dec-10	---------------	;
    23-Dec-10	---------------	<
    24-Dec-10	---------------	1
    24-Dec-10---------------	2
    24-Dec-10---------------	3
    24-Dec-10---------------	4
    24-Dec-10---------------	5
    24-Dec-10---------------	6
    But after 9 it startes giveing symbols instead of sequential numbers. is there a alternative way to give sequential numbers for all duplicate entires ?

    Just use

    =COUNTIF($A$1:$A1,A1)
