Update corresponding cells in an array

Let’s say I have a 20x6 array. For a known value in column 1, I could find the corresponding value in any other column by using the vlookup function. What function might I use if I wanted to locate a value in column 1 and update the cell in the same row in column 4 and column 5?

Clarification of problem: I have an array, say A1:E20. In one of the cells in column A, I have the word 'apple'. I would like to enter an update in the cell in column D and column E in the same row as where 'apple' appears. What is the easiest way to do this?
