Count # Of Codes Used Based On %

    Hello,

I have a spreadsheet that we use to track errors in a production process. In each row, we select one of nearly 75 'error codes'. Each error code corresponds to a different problem within our production process.

I'd like to have the codes summed by the number of times they appear, and also have the frequency of appearance displayed in descending order. We'd like to pull the data on a YTD, Monthly, and Weekly basis.

My sample spreadsheet is attached. I'm unsure where to start with this.

There are a few viable approaches I suspect but although your sample file is useful it terms of the source data it fails to illustrate "desired results" - this would make it easier for people to visualise exactly what you're after and ensure they don't waste their time & yours creating something that in the end is not what you want to see / need. If you revise your attachment and say for a couple of codes provide a quick "desire output" sheet that would I think be very helpful.

Good Idea. Thanks. I've added a tab of what a desired end result would be. We want to be able to sum the frequency for each code, and have them appear in descending order to help with a pareto analysis.

Just as a heads up - have you considered using Pivot Charts ?

I've uploaded a very simple example showing your YTD chart.
Upload is in 2007 Format (as per your file) this is because PT functionality differs in 2007 from earlier versions (2007 is a little more powerful and file compression is also better).

The pivot chart will certainly meet most of my needs and save me TONS of time. I'll use that! Thanks a million.
