    NumberFomat Excel problem

I'm trying to progmatically set the number format for a range of cells to be the same as the standard UK currency format. I;ve set the NumberFormat to "\£#,#00.00;-\£#,#00.00", but it fails to add the £ sign and when I look at the spreadsheet it shows the format as Custom. Anyone out there know what format I should use.

I notice you're using Excel 2007 - I'm actually using XL2003, but this seems to work fine for me and sets the cell format to currency, and displays the £ sign :

ignore the $ - it should use Local Currency (ie display £)

But Luke, this will show the £ in the cell, but if you then go to Format > Cells it shows as custom, which the OP doesn't seem to want ...
