    custom error message

    Hi all,

Is there a way to customize the error message that a user sees when they try to enter data in to a protected cell?

    Thanks in advance.

I'll go out on a limb and say no.

I'll stand with Shg, but depending on your reasons for wanting to change it, you could try another branch...

    - Have a look at the possible message options under Data - Validation.
    - Depending on your version of Excel (I think it is Excel 2002 onwards), you could prevent locked cells from even being selectable under the Tools - Protection - Protect Sheet options.

    Re: custom error message

You can stop them from selecting the protected cell (Worksheet.EnableSelection = xlUnlockedCells), then you don't need an error message.
