Question Share workbooks with Pivot Tables

We have a group of 20-25 people who currently use a single master file to obtain their data and save it to their own file to make updates and generate pivot tables. I understand there is not a 'common' way to use shared workbooks that contain pivot tables. However, is there another way that the updates on the data tabs can be automatically put back into the master file?

Re: Share workbooks with Pivot Tables

Generally it is a bad idea for multiple users to be working on the same file at the same time for anything, even in a database.

But depending how your masterfile works. If its a continually growing list, then yes its doable, users that input values just go to the bottom of the list.

But if there values that are suppose to be in a specific location, and if multiple people are on at the same time, then it gets really complicated.

Basically you can have a workbook that opens a read only version of the masterfile and copies all relevent information over to this dummy workbook, you users edit the dummy workbook, then you have a script that checks everything before submitting it back to the masterfile.
