Creating a "if" formula

I am trying to create a formula and really have no idea how to get the results i need. To keep it simple I am making a spreadsheet where column c will represent a yearly mission or required number that the salesperson must make by the end of the year. then in columns d - o contain the number that they get for that month. in Column p i have the total for the year that updates everytime the value in d - o is changed but I would like to make a column q that will tell the salesperson how far behind or ahead they are. so for instance if column c is 12 and then column d is 1 then the result in q will be even, if column d is 0 however then the value in q would be -1. but where I am running into bigger problems is that if they got a 0 for one month and then the next month they got 2 they would go back to even, so i need it to update q everytime a value is included in d - o. is this possible? any help would be greatly appriceated. troy.grant@us.army.mil

Does this do what you want?

This is the formula:
=-(((DATEDIF(DATEVALUE("10/1/2008"),TODAY(),"m"))*(C2/12))-P2)

And I used a custom number format of:
"+"0;"-"0;"even"
