Controlling Pivot Table via Coded Buttons

I have several macro coded buttons that control a pivot table. I can successfully control the Page and Row Fields but am having trouble controling the Data Item Field as it removes the data when you Hide or Deselect a Data Column. I recorded the action of deselecting the data items and have been able to, through the coded button, to mimic the removal and addition of a data item however once the code for that button is run it changes the behavior of my other buttons. Any ideas?
