Time Delay while able to use spreadsheet

i would like to be able to have a timer run in the background of a workbook that still allows the user to operate within the worksheet, but only for a specified amount of time. I have users spending all day in the book, without doing anything and i am tired of the office email asking the user to get out of the file.

I can add the save and code to the end of it, but i do not know how to set the timer for 3 minutes or so and still allow the user to operate.

    Thanks

    Hello Ada1,

There are several approaches that could be used to do this. It would help if you posted the code you have already. This will provide you with fast turnaround and code that fits your needs.
    Sincerely,
    Leith Ross

Re: Time Delay while able to use spreadsheet

The code i have at this time is the normal operational code for the spreadsheet. I have scrapped this timer a few times now and the am looking for a starting point or suggestion. I have read in other places, that using the macro to open a new excel window would be a god option, but i am not that experienced with VBA that i wanted to attempt that

i hesitate to post the VBA as it contains web query logins and other secure information.

    Thanks
