    Red face Data pick up from GRID

    Hi,

    Need your help to solve this.

    In the attached file, there are two sheets "Data" & "GRID".

    "GRID" is basically based on Objective and Cost element. In the data file, we have to identify whether the cost element(Col. E) tagged to objective (Col. B) is as per the "GRID" or not. If not, pick up the correct objective from the Grid basis the cost element.

    Highlighted rows are defaulted rows. We need the output as given in col. G.

    Looking forward to your response on this.

    Thanks in advance.

    Keep the data on the GRID sorted by the codes so they're in ascending order, and this formula will do the trick simply:

    G12 =LOOKUP(Data!E11,GRID!B:B,GRID!A:A)

    No, I guess not. You're using the same Cost Element code for multiple Objectives on the GRID.

    How can you ascertain which is to be used with just those two columns and duplicates allowed?

    817001 should only be in one Objective category if you want automated association. Right?

    Red face Data Pick up from Grid

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply... One cost element can figure in multiple objectives...so I will pick the first one appearing in the grid...

    My suggestion above then may be "good enough", but I believe it reports the last match it finds, not the first. FYI.
