Unable to save external link values.

    Good morning all,

I have a problem that, from a little research, I don't think can be resolved. Due to the large number of VLOOKUP functions on my page of data whenever I try to save I get the following error codes...

Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other applications.
Unable to save external link values.
The problem itself may not be solvable but is there away to prevent these messages from coming up when I save (or when it autosaves?)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Chris.

    Hi Chris,

How many VLOOKUPS have you got? I suspect it may not be the VLOOKUPS but perhaps the number of conditional and / or other formats. Particularly if these formats are not in contiguous ranges of cells.

I've had workbooks in the past with over 2000 rows of data, with each row containing upwards of 50 VLOOKUPS which is why, unless you have more than that I don't think that will be the problem.

I've had this message occasionally in the past and never fully bottomed the reason, but as far as I could always tell the data was never compromised.

You could try including an Application.DisplayAlerts = False instruction in your auto save macro to supress the warning message. I've never tested it with that particular warning, but worth a try.

    Rgds

Sorry I think it is the VLOOKUPS that are the p[roblem but because they refer to external data sources and there are a lot of them. You are right, it's not the VLOOKUP function itself but the multiple references to external data. (I think!). I found something on the MS website stating that it was a "known issue".

Anyway.. tried your "Application.DisplayAlerts = False" and it works, thanks for your help!
