    Talking Linking Cells in Spreadsheets using a macro

    Hi there,

    I have a question and would appreciate some advice.

    I have several worksheet which all link in to one main workbook.

    Each month I have to update the links in main book to pick up the sub level work books.

    The link path in the main workbook is quite long due to the number of various directories, however, there is only one variable......the month.

    For Example, in the main workbook all the linked cells will read as follows;

    C: File A/ File B/ File C/ Jun 08 / work book.xls Cell A1

    I was thinking of using the search and replace function in a macro to highlight the relevant cells in the main work book and then seach for Jun 08 and replace with July 08.

    Is this the best way to do this or is the a basic function which I could use instead?

    Thanks

    Hi

    You could use Edit Links to point to the new file and it will change all the links.

    Another option would be to have it all linked to fixed place (C: File A/ File B/ File C/ current / work book.xls Cell A1 to use your description), and then put the current workbook over that file each month. No need to change links then.
