    Importing space delimited text file

    Hello all,

I've got something that's been a pain in my side for a while now. I've got text files that are space delimited where each column needs a different character width (e.g. col1 is 1 character, col2 is 20 characters, col3 is 10char, etc..).

I was using a batch conversion program to convert them but the trial has run out and $500 for it is too much.

Each file has a total of 66 columns that need to be separated.

Is there an easier way then importing the file into excel and manually separating out all the columns?

I'd be happy if excel just remembered where the columns should be when I import each file.

    Thanks.

    Adam

    Hi,

Have you tried using the Macro recorder and opening the file specifying the space as a delimiter? The macro you record should do exactly what you want each time you subsequently load the file with the macro.
