    Question Writing Descriptions for functions

    Hi all,

at the moment i'm toying with creating new functions and stuff as i find it's a massive time saver when you have ridiculously long formulae!

anyway what i was wondering is:

How do you write a new function so that descriptions for each field are shown?

    any help is much appreciated.

i cannot seem to find the functions in the currnet excel sheet even though i have looked in the FUNCRES.XLA file and ATPVBEAN.XLS file?

so also if you know where i can see the existing functions code that too would be very helpful.

    Thanks for reading everyone

    Good afternoon Macdave_19

I seem to remember that you can't do this directly from Excel - you need to directly access the .dll files to manage this, and I'm not sure that the add-ins that you refer to that are supplied with Excel are just .xla files.

To get around this restriction you'll need to use a third party add-in available for free from here :

and distribute the .dll files with any copies of your add-in (or make it available to anyone who'll be accessing this file) for it to work properly. I don't actually use this, but I seem to remember last time I checked all the instructions were in French ...
