Installing ActiveX for interactive Excel pages

I have some webpages which contain Office 2000 interactive Excel sheets. Users with the right Office Web Components (an Active X component) on their computer can read and use these.

For those who do not have these web components under Tools/options/general/web options-I can specify a location from which these will be installed for them when they open the page. This location needs to point to an MSOWC.CAB file.

The messages I get tell me that I cannot download from a http:// location-the path has to start file:// . I think this means I cannot just put the MSOWC.CAB file on a webpage and download from there?

Therefore, I have the MSOWC.CAB file. Where can I put it so that it can be installed when users open my pages?

    Hope this makes sense.

I've edited this to try to make it clearer. I've had no replies as yet and I'm new to the board-have I posted it in right forum?

Any suggestions anywhere else i might find answer?

I don't think you can just install these owc controls like this. I would recommend that you avoid using controls that other users may not have, by allowing them to download you might even be contravening copy right.
    Hope that helps.
