    Keeping formulas in inserted rows

I have a worksheet with formulas in some of the columns. When I want to add new rows in between existing rows I need these new rows to have the formulas already embedded in them. Currently I have to copy/paste the formula from the preceding row.

I also have a column that displays the 'item number' in which the first cell is '1' and subsequent rows are 'A1+1', 'A2+1' - 'An+1'. If I insert a new row, currently, this cell is blank and in the next, existing row, I can get the message '#VALUE?'. So I need to have this new row to have the 'An+1' formula embedded.

Any help will be most appreciated

Thanks Dave, but you'll have to excuse my ignorance as a low level Excel user - where do I need to put this routine?
