Using INDIRECT function on closed files without having to open them

Is there a way I can use the INDIRECT function on closed files without having to open them first? I know this problem can be solved by downloading an add-in, but don't want to do this, as it means I will have to apply the add-in to all 30 PCs that will be accessing the workbook.
