Chance of a number being selected

hi everyone, this is my first post.

I have a list of 8 names, and I want to predict the chance / probability of any of the names being randomly selected each time ?
Ideally, the chance would be based on the number of times I have made a random selection.

    Hope someone can help.
    Thanks xx

Your question is not clear. Be more specific technically you facing the problem with Excel or macro.

    thanks - probability question again

    Thanks for the reply.
I have a list of names which will be pulled randomly "out of the hat", on each go any name has a 1/6 chance of being pulled out.
What I wanted, either in macro or a function is away of telling what the probability of a name being pulled out after say 10 turns.
And if the same name appears 2 times after 10 turns, what was the probability of that !
Hope that isnt asking the impossible !?
    Thanks
    xx

Wouldn't the odds stay the same each time? What starts as a 1 in 6 chance would remain the same with each draw....

    thanks

I thought so too, but also thought that if the number of draws increases then your chance / probability of being picked also increases, and your probability of being picked twice must also be different depending on the number of draws made.
    Thanks

What exactly do you need here: a statistics lesson, or do you already know the statistics side of it and need help getting the formulas in Excel?

If you need a statistics lesson, I would suggest finding a good statistics text. You might even find someones class notes on the internet. If you ask a specific question, someone here might even know enough statistics to help explain how to solve a problem.

If you already know the formula you need, and need help getting that formula into a cell, again be specific as to what you're having trouble with and someone should be able to help build the formula. There might even be a built in formula for it, if someone knew exactly what you were after and was enough of a statstician to know the name of the built in formula.
