Macro worksheet protection policy

is there a macro or whatever that can help me to maintain individual worksheet protection against user (user group)?
I would like to protect the worksheet, but allow a few users to modify their data in specified cells by using their own password.

I've seen it's possible thru macro...just don't have idea on how to do it.
...using Excel 2000.
