    Bloomberg connection

Ok my situation is like this: I have a computer that runs Windows XP
Professional. On the computer I have a Bloomberg subscription i.e. I have an
ordinary monitor, but a Bloomberg keyboard and it is "true" Bloomberg
subscription (it is not the Bloomberg website I am referring to). I have an
Excel spreadsheet that is connected to Bloomberg and updated once every day
using a DDE connection. Now will this work even if the Bloomberg program is
closed? If not so is there any other way of creating a link that works even
if the Bloomberg program is closed? The connection works through a macro that
runs on a prespecified time every day. The code for opening the Bloomberg
    link is:

    channelNumber = Application.DDEInitiate(app:="BLP", topic:="S")

(the code for the macro is not written by me)

If Bloomberg is closed, EXCEL should ask you if you want to update the
links and will turn on the DDE "engine", to enable EXCEL to update the
links. In any case, Bloomberg has very good help services,
online(through the terminal itself) I suggest you use them rather than
    an EXCEL forum.

    Re: Bloomberg connection

Thnk you for your fast answer! I have tried to contact the Bloomberg helpdesk
but with very limited success at best. They simply said that the Bloomberg
program had to opened. You hinted that there is a way of doing this from the
Excel program. Now my question is (and this is pure Excel VBA question):

I have a macro that runs once every day at certain time. In that macro I
open up a DDE connection to Bloomberg. If this does not work when Bloomberg
is closed (as some people has suggested e.g. the Bloomberg folks themselves
although with no explanation) is there any way of letting the macro open the
Bloomberg program. To me this seems probable given that I use Windows XP
Professional as operating system on my computer. Any help is apperciated!
    Thanks!

    Read WAPI <GO>

You cannot schedule this on an unattneded computer - the Bloomberg terminal
has to be logged in at least once every seven days and this requires human
    intervention.

You are paying $1500 per month per Bloomberg - ask the helpdesk for
assistance and look at the examples installed with the bloomberg.
