Corrupt Excel file - £10 to fix!

I have an Excel file downloadable at www.adscott.com/file.xls (3.92 MB).

If anybody manages to repair it, I will pay £10 by PayPal. I have tried repairing it in Excel and using a third party recovery tool but it didn't work.

    Thanks,

    Scott

    Scott,

go get a copy of open office and try opening it in that.

    http://www.openoffice.org

It is a free (although large) download.

    Why?

Have you tried opening it yourself in openoffice? Why might this work?

don't try it then. Apparently it isn't that important.

    Eh?

You obviously took my message the wrong way. I was simply asking if you had tried this yourself already on your own computer with my file, and if not, why you think this might work in your opinion. I was not suggesting that it won't work.

No, if I clicked on your link it would try to open the file in Excel -
obviously that wouldn't work. And I have no need of downloading the
software, installing it, and associating it with *.xls.

I think it would work because it has worked for countless other individuals.
No guarantee, obviously, as I know nothing about the file.

    hi,
I haven't used these myself, but another couple of possibilities (besides Tom's suggestion of Open Office) are described on the following page:
