Installing Excel 2000 on a system with Excel XP - any advice?

I'm about to do something that makes me very nervous. As the title
says, my system currently has Excel XP (aka 2002) and I'm installing
    Excel 2000. I need access to it's object library for a COM Add-in I'm
    writing.

Has anyone here ever installed these in reverse order? If so, should I
install 2000 then re-install 2002 and all the updates? I'm just worried
    about common DLL's getting over-written.

    Thanks,

    Hi Nick,

I think you are right to be nervous about doing that and it goes against all
the advice, from MS and others. Probably safest to do as you say, install
    2000 then re-install 2002 - if needs.

But if you are brave I would suggest do not install in the default
"Microsoft Office" folder but in say a new "Microsoft Office2K".

One Reg setting I can think of that may need changing:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Excel.Application\CurVer

    but no doubt others too.

Let us know how you get on !

    Regards,
    Peter T
