    ways to run a macro

    hi

how do i get a macro to run without 1. pressing a button 2. pressing run button 3. stepping through a macro.

I tried to protect a couple of cells and protect however those cells are in a subtotal list and as i protect the sheet it will not allow me to use the + or - on the subtotal list any ideas?? i was thinking of a =if cell <> "" then blah blah de blah. but how would i get that to run without the user doing the above.

I'm not 100% sure what you want but another way to run macros is to use worksheet/workbook events.

yeah i was thinking that however what i want is that should a user have entered into a cell and then once they finished with the sheet they will click on any random sheet but they might also just save it any ideas??

Still not sure what you are after.

When do you want the macro/code to run?

Each worksheet has a Deactivate event which is triggered just before another sheet is activated.

Also each workbook has BeforeSave and BeforeClose events.
