Cannot store new macro in Personal folder XLSTART

I want to create a new macro and store it in my Personal folder XLSTART so that I can call for it from any Excel book that is open.
But, but this option does not appear when the "Macros in" box displays. It shows only "In tis workbook" and "In all workbooks open".

I chose this later one, thinking it would be equivalent to the "Personal" one, but no, it isn't (or I don't complet it right)

And yet, the XLSTART folder does exist in its proper path, but it is empty.

    Thanks for any help.

Re: Dannot store new macro n Personal folder XLSTART

I'm going to venture a guess here.... Maybe you don't have a personal workbook yet?

The "Macros In:" option shows up when you want to run an existing macro, i.e. by pressing Alt-F8 to bring up the Macro dialog.

But have you tried creating a new macro in your personal workbook first?

So click Developer > Record Macro, and in the next dialog, for the option "Store Macro In:" you select "Personal Macro Workbook".

You can immediately stop recording and it will (hopefully) have created a new macro in your brand new personal workbook.

The personal workbook (PERSONAL.XLSB) should now also show up for the "Macros In" option.

    Fingers crossed...

    Cheers
    Nico

    Thak you, caycoo. More precisions:

    You say:
Maybe you don't have a personal workbook yet? - Precisely! And I don't know what a "personal" workbook is or in what it differs from an ordinary .xlsm Excel file. If you could help me with that first...

    You say:
So click Developer > Record Macro, and in the next dialog, for the option "Store Macro In:" you select "Personal Macro Workbook". - But that's the snag: in my case that dialog box doesn't show that "personal macro w." option. Maybe because I create all my macros from ordinary .xlsm files, stored in ordinary folders?

Thanks for any further follow up, if I may dare...
