Cannot remove custom menu item from Excel 2003

I am learning Excel 2003 and something has me stumped.

I was following a practice file in the book Microsoft Office Step by Step 2003. The task I worked on was Creating a Menu to Hold Macros.

When I opened the practice file, I left Macro security on the default setting of High. I went through the procedure in the book; created a new menu, renamed the new menu Custom Macros, created a new menu item under Custom Macros, renamed it, then assigned a macro to the menu item. Everything worked, but when I when I tried to delete the menu, it won't appear under Customize dialog box to remove. If I right click either the menu item, or Custom Macros, Excel won't bring up the short cut menu to delete the items. Reseting the toolbar didn't help either. I believe Macro security is causing a conflict.

Does anyone know how to resolve this? I have the latest updated version of Excel 2003.

I think the security setting is preventing the macro's form running. Set the security to "Medium" (Not sure what the prompt is in 2003), this allows you to choose if you want to run the macro.

The security settings should not affect that. Did you actually create a new menu bar, or a new menu item on an existing toolbar?

Yes, I created a new menu and added a new menu item to it. I was finally able to remove the new menu only by hitting the Reset button all the checkmarked items under Customize.
