    Redaction of numbers

    Hi all,

I have a spreadsheet of data, of over 250,000 rows.

In both columns E and G are telephone numbers, which typically take the format of 447999999999/4419999999999 or 7999999999/1999999999

These types of numbers make up the majority of my data, as they are the standard type of telephone numbers.

However, amongst the data there is also numbers such as 150, 901, 2525, Paddy Power, Natwest etc, in addition to numbers that consist of letters and numbers, such as 0E9999999FD9999.

These numbers are standard for text messages received from network providers and companies etc.

Taking the types of data into consideration I am looking to redact all of the data within my spreadsheet. However, I am only looking to redact the typical numbers (447999999999/4419999999999 or 7999999999/1999999999) not the 3 and 4 digit numbers, words or letters and numbers.

Is there a way to redact these numbers from 447999999999 etc to xxxxxxx9999?

    Can anyone help me please?

    Many thanks

    Re: Redaction of numbers

By redact do you mean leave them in place but just make the font colour the same as the background colour, or do you mean delete them.

It would be better if you upload a sample workbook and indicate which cells need 'redacting'. Be sure to include examples of each type of number/length.

    Re: Redaction of numbers

    Hi Richard,

Yes so replace the characters in the cell, ie 07999999 replaced with xxxxxxx leaving just the last 4 digits (ie 9999) in the cell - but keeping the formatting so that the font and background colours remain the same.
