Freeze pane rows and columns not working

    Hi,

In sample file I have rows 1:8 which I want to keep visible and columns 1:4 also visible as I would like the menu buttons to stay on screen.

When I select E9 and freeze pane, rows 1:8 remain static but all columns continue to scroll.

All websites I've looked at suggest that if I select E9 and freeze pane then all rows above and columns to the left remain static but this is not true.

Am I doing something wrong with freeze pane? Or how do I get this working, I was thinking VBA might do it?

    Thanks

When I select E9 and go to Freeze Panes, rows 1:8 and columns A:D remain frozen.

No, that is true. I don't know what you're doing wrong. Here is a video of me doing this.

However, your menu buttons go down to about row 23, so they will scroll off the top of the page.

Re: Freeze pane rows and columns not working

Ah ok, your reply may have go my head thinking differently.

I thought by selecting E9 everything in rows 1:8 & columns A:D would remain static but I now see how it works.

How would I go about getting my menu buttons to stay static and have just E9:K9 scroll through data

    Thanks for your help

Ah, I see what you're after.

The way it works is that when you scroll down, 1:8 stay fixed. When you scroll right, A:D stay fixed. The design intent is that if you have column headings and row headings, you will always be able to see the headings for whatever data you are scrolling through.

But you want to create a window with E9 as its upper-left cell that scrolls while A:D and 1:8 both always stay fixed. Actually, to be more specific, you want your buttons/menu to stay fixed.

I can think of three ways to do this:

    1. Redesign your form so that the buttons are all in the quadrant to the upper=left of E9. You can enlarge a single cell or two to do this. Freeze from E9. I have done this in the attached sample.

    2. Use VBA to reposition the buttons every time the selection changes.

    3. Use VBA to show a modeless form with the buttons floating over the sheet.

Re: Freeze pane rows and columns not working

Hi and thanks for the reply.

I see now how the freeze pane works, not sure how I didn't work that out lol.

Although suggestion 1 would be the easiest from a design point of view I would prefer to steer away from that one.

Options 2 & 3 are probably the route I will take and more than likely VBA to reposition as scrolling occurs, just need to figure out how to do it.

Thanks for your time and suggestions
